The Rotaliida are a shell -bearing, sea-dwelling single - celled taxon from the group of foraminifera .

features

The species of the Rotaliida secrete their housing from low-magnesium calcite (<5 mol% magnesium ), the walls are bilamellar. The housings are hyaline and perforate with either low or rarely high trochospiral, planispiral, annular or irregular arrangement of the chambers.

In addition to the Miliolida and the Globigerinida , the Rotaliida are one of the three foraminifera taxa that serve as hosts for photosynthesizing endosymbionts . Such symbioses can be found in the families Amphisteginidae, Calcarinidae and Nummulitidae as well as in isolated representatives of other families, e.g. B. the Asterigerinidae. The endosymbionts are usually diatoms .
