The yellow- naped amazon ( Amazona auropalliata ) is a species of bird from the family of real parrots . Its natural range is Central America .
features
Yellow-naped amazons reach a body length of 35 to 38 centimeters. Their body plumage is green. The large yellow patch on the neck gives it its name. The wax skin around the nostril is black. Unlike many Amazon parrots, there is no red on the wing tip.
Yellow-naped amazons have a loud voice and are able to imitate sounds from their environment well. They are cave breeders . The female lays two to four eggs. The incubation period is about 26 days.
Subspecies
The species was previously classified as a subspecies of the yellow-headed amazon. Today it is viewed as a distinct species. In addition to the nominate form Amazona auropallaita auropallaita ( Lesson , 1842) there are two other subspecies:
- Roatan yellow- naped amazon ( Amazona auropalliata caribae Lousada , 1989 )
- Red- necked yellow- naped amazon ( Amazona auropalliata parvipes B. L. Monroe Jr & TR Howell , 1966 )
