Wolfgang Grummt

Wolfgang Grummt (born August 22, 1932 in Wildenfels ; † January 7, 2013 ) was a German ornithologist , zoo biologist and conservationist . His main research interests were the chicken and parrot birds .

Life

From 1951 to 1956 he studied biology at the University of Leipzig, and received a diploma in biology with a thesis on animal science. 1979 was doctorate at the Humboldt University of Berlin Dr. rer. nat. From 1956 to 1997 he was a scientific assistant and curator for birds at Tierpark Berlin . From 1975 Grummt was assistant director and deputy director. From 1990 to 1991 he was acting director and finally from 1997 emeritus . Grummt was co- editor from 1979 to 1990, and from 1991 to 1993 editor of articles on ornithology . From 1982 to 1990 he was co-editor of the journal Der Zoologischer Garten and from 1991 editor-in-chief . In 1991 he was co-editor of the zoo in-house magazine Milu . In 1995 he was chairman of the World Pheasant Association (Germany section). From 1998 to 2013 he was part of the editorial team of the journal Gefiederte Welt . From 1999 to 2013 Grummt was on the advisory board of the Loro Parque Foundation at Loro Parque on Tenerife. From 2002 he was in the sponsorship group of the bird park Walsrode .

Furthermore, Grummt was a member of several organizations and groups, including the Association of German Zoo Directors (VdZ), honorary member of the International Zoo Directors Association, Species Survival Commission of the IUCN , Conservation Breeding Specialist Group of the IUCN, World Pheasant Association (Section Germany), German Ornithological Society (DOG ), Society for Tropical Ornithology (GTO), Avicultural Society and International Wild Waterfowl Association . He was an expert on the Washington Convention on the Protection of Species (WA) and the Federal Nature Conservation Act for birds. Study trips and congress participation took place among others. a. in the USA, Canada, Mexico, Cuba, Brazil, Argentina, Zimbabwe, Morocco, Malaysia, Singapore, Borneo, Vietnam, China, North Korea, Mongolia, the former Soviet Union. Grummt wrote numerous scientific articles, mostly about birds, in scientific journals and popular scientific journals such as the Feathered World.
