The red vineyard peach , also called vineyard peach or blood peach , is a variety of the peach ( Prunus persica ) plant species belonging to the rose family (Rosaceae ). It is a stone fruit . The first detectable variety was listed under "Sing" in China.

taste

The variety is red to deep red fleshed. Another variety of vineyard peach is the white , but there is hardly any difference in taste. These peach varieties are more aromatic than normal peaches , but less sweet.

Cultivation

The vineyard peach should have consistently moist soil before harvest. Too much water just before harvest creates a bland taste. In contrast to other types of fruit, the vineyard peach is not grown by processing , but from seeds . This cultivation results in a better adaptation to the respective vineyard climate.

use

Vineyard peaches - both white and red - are suitable for cooking and stewing , but the furry skin is best removed. Also jam and compote prepared from these peaches, as they have an intense, strong flavor. Fruit brandies and liqueurs made from vineyard peaches are a tasty delicacy.

ecology

For ecological reasons and because of the great benefits of the vineyard peach tree , many winemakers have come together to give this tree a chance. Successes can be observed in the federal state of Rhineland-Palatinate, as this promotes planting.

marketing

On the Moselle, producers, processors and marketers joined forces in 2010 to form a Moselle vineyard peach interest group. The aim is, on the one hand, to continue to cultivate abandoned vineyards, particularly on labor-intensive steep slopes. This was financially subsidized by the state of Rhineland-Palatinate through the Agricultural-Environment-Landscape (PAULa) program in order to preserve the cultural landscape. On the other hand, a uniform quality logo is intended to increase sales of products made from Moselle vineyard peaches. The aim is to obtain geoprotection status for the fruit. Like Parma ham and champagne , the Moselle vineyard peach should only be grown in a limited regional area under its own name.
