Coordinates: 51 ° 36 ′ 13.3 ″  N , 12 ° 33 ′ 42.5 ″  E The red bank is up to 15 m high, reddish steep bank on the Mulde near Bad Düben .

Emergence

The Rote Ufer is located on the Mulde in the Bad Düben district of Alaunwerk and is a leftover dump from the mining of alum between 1557 and 1886. The alum factory was one of the most important of its kind at the time and exported alum to many European countries. The bank, which is up to 15 m high, was created by filling in depleted and roasted alum earth. The alum salt was used in tanneries and traded all over the world. Due to environmental influences such as rain and the current of the basin, parts of the steep bank break off from time to time. In 2017, a barrier was installed in front of the ailing bank edge.

Excursion destination

The Rote Ufer is now a destination for hikers and cyclists and offers a good view of the Muldenaue between the districts of Altenhof and Schnaditz with its moated castle .
