The red-capped wood warbler ( Basileuterus rufifrons ) is a small bird in the wood warbler family (Parulidae).
Red cap warbler reach a height of about twelve to thirteen centimeters. Male red cap warblers have an olive-green to olive-brown upper side plumage, a light yellow throat and a light yellow chest plumage. The rest of the underside plumage is white to grayish. The head is red. A white line runs from the base of the beak over the eyes to the back of the neck. There is a white line on the cheek. The females and juveniles have duller plumage overall.
Red-cap warblers inhabit the south of North America . The distribution area extends from Mexico to the south of Central America . Further north they inhabit southeast Arizona and south Texas . They are less common further north and in the south-west.
