The RotorWay Exec is a two-seat, single-engine kit - helicopter from the American manufacturer RotorWay International with a piston engine .

history

The helicopter was launched in 1980 as the Exec 90. After a bankruptcy and the re-establishment of RotorWay, an improved Exec 90 came on the market in 1990. In August 1994 the Exec 90 was replaced by the Exec 162F. The machine is sold as a kit without painting and avionics .

technology

It is a plastic / metal model with a conventional main / tail rotor design and a skid undercarriage . With the kit, the critical parts are delivered prefabricated. The wiring harness is pre-assembled. According to the factory, the construction time for an experienced mechanic is around 500 hours for the normal kit and 250 hours for the quick assembly kit that is only available today.

Like its predecessor, it had a 4-cylinder boxer engine with a carburetor . A special feature are the asymmetrically profiled rotor blades of the two-blade main rotor , which facilitate the autorotation process. The tail rotor is belt-driven to avoid a complicated and expensive gearbox.

The Exec 162F is currently being delivered, which has an injection engine with FADEC as a major innovation . Older Execs can be upgraded to the current status with an expansion stage.

By August 2003, 700 kits had been delivered. The price is USD 100,000 (2010).
