The transport company Rotterdamse Elektro Tram NV ( RET for short ) is the operator of the metro , trams and city buses in the Dutch city ​​of Rotterdam .

The Rotterdamse Electric Tram was founded in 1878 as Rotterdamse Electrische Tramweg-Maatschappij (RETM) . From 1927 it was then called the Rotterdamse Electric Tram , in 1956 it was renamed the Rotterdamse Electric Tram .

About 185.7 million passengers are transported annually on 8 tram lines, 5 metro lines, 40 bus lines and one ferry line. Of these, around 38.7 million passengers are on the buses, 59.9 million passengers are on the tram and 87.1 million passengers are on the metro. Around 600,000 people use RET's means of transport every day. The fast ferry connects Hook of Holland with some destinations in the port area and the Maasvlakte .

On March 10, 2014, 33 passengers were injured in a collision between three tram units in the Breeplein district of Rotterdam-Zuid . The accident happened not far from De Kuip Stadium .
