The Red-forest salamanders ( Plethodon jordani ) is a salamander from the species-rich family of lung lots Salamander (Plethodontidae).
features
The red-cheeked forest salamander has a slim body 8.5 to 18.5 centimeters long and a head with protruding eyes. There are red spots on the otherwise black skin on the cheeks and legs. The tail, from which a hideous tasting slime is released in case of danger, can also be thrown off.
Habitat and behavior
The red-cheeked wood salamander lives in the southern Appalachian Mountains of the United States . Its diet consists of millipedes , beetles and insect larvae .
The males breed every year, the females every two years.

The red-cheeked forest salamander is listed as " near threatened " on the IUCN Red List .
