Round Island Lighthouse , occasionally Kevuliya Lighthouse , is a lighthouse ( English Lighthouse ) in the Eastern Province of Sri Lanka .
The lighthouse stands on a small rock island in the Bay of Trincomalee , a large natural harbor on the Bay of Bengal , which was also used as a base by the Royal Navy during the British colonial administration . At that time, three beacons were operated to ensure safe access to the bay , of which only the one still exists on Round Island today.
The 21 m high round tower was built in 1863 on the highest point on the island. The sector light has a fire height of 31 m and indicates the safe fairway with two white sectors and warns of the shallows with the red sectors . As identifier , a group of three flashes is shown with a recovery of 15 seconds (Fl (3) WR.15s).
