The Route Point (in Argentina Punta Rumbo ) is a headland at the northwest end of Laurie Island in the archipelago of the South Orkney Islands . It is located 1.5 km west of Cape Robertson on the northern foothills of the Mackenzie Peninsula .

The headland was discovered and named in December 1821 by the British sealer captain George Powell (1794-1824) with the Sloop Dove and his American counterpart Nathaniel Palmer with the Sloop James Monroe . The further naming background has not been passed down. The Argentine name roughly means destination .
