Roven Vogel (born July 17, 2000 in Oschatz ) is a German chess player with the title of International Master .

Chess career

Vogel began playing chess at Siebenlehner SV, where his first trainer Peter Kahn (one of the founders of the chess department) inspired him to play chess. He later learned from Mathias Womacka , since 2010 he has been trained by Grandmaster Henrik Teske and currently plays for the USV TU Dresden . In the 2016/17 season Roven Vogel also played in Austria for SK Dornbirn , in the 2017/18 season he competed in the Czech extra league for Moravská Slavia Brno .

In 2015 Vogel took part in the U16 World Championship in Porto Carras . After a mixed start to the tournament he won the last 6 of 11 games and won the world championship with 9 points, half a point ahead of Luca Moroni Jr. from Italy and Haik Martirosjan from Armenia. In the same year he fulfilled the third IM standard at the ZDMI Open and achieved the title of International Master. Because of his performance, Vogel was named U20 Player of the Year of the German Chess Youth in 2015.

At the U18 World Chess Championship in Khanty-Mansiysk in 2016, Vogel finished 32nd. In June 2017, he became German U18 champion.
