Rovhoj

The Rovhoj (there are several slightly modified spellings: Rovhøj (Danish), Rovhöj or Rovhoi ) is an extended dolmen with a half-height access stone , with the Sprockhoff number. 15. It originated between 3500 and 2800 BC. And is a megalithic system of the funnel beaker culture (TBK).

The Rovhoj is located about two kilometers west of Harrislee near Simondys , in the Schleswig-Flensburg district in Schleswig-Holstein . The plant was originally located about 150 m further in a south-easterly direction.

The chamber

The chamber was found in 1959 during the excavation of the Rovhoj, a round hill about 37 m in diameter and about 1.8 m high, and uncovered by Hans Hingst. On the surface of the core hill of 14 m diameter were a so-called stone cladding a pebble layer . The dolmen was erected on Ellunder Weg after the excavation . During the excavation, it was found that the hill was built in several phases. In addition to the central burial, archaeologists found the remains of a further ten burials. Four of them were wooden coffins . Inside the central burial chamber lay in a funnel beaker, two arrowheads, ornate ceramics and a unique amber jewelry. Outside the chamber was u. a. a bronze sword and a fishtail dagger found.

The long sides of the approximately two by one meter large chamber consist of two pairs of bearing stones. At the north end there is a strong closing stone, opposite a half-height entry stone. Only one capstone has survived; it has 34 small bowls picked by human hands . A pile of fired flint lay on the floor . Ten additional burials , mostly from the Bronze Age , were found in the outer, multiple enlarged hill .
