Roy Knapp

Roy C. Knapp (born October 26, 1891 , † June 16, 1979 ) was an American percussionist and music teacher.

Knapp became known as a drummer, percussionist and xylophone soloist in Chicago from the early 1920s. He appeared on the major radio stations and was from 1928 to 1950 employee of the broadcaster WLS , where he appeared in shows such as The National Barn Dance .

In 1938 he founded the Roy C. Knapp School of Percussion , which was recognized as a college in 1946 and was authorized to award the Bachelor of Music and the concert diploma. His numerous students include Gene Krupa , Louie Bellson , Dave Tough , Baby Dodds, and Bobby Christian . He ended his career as an active musician in 1960, he continued to lead his school until 1966. Then he accepted an invitation from Maurie Lishon to teach in Frank's drum shop , where he worked until his death in 1979.
