Rozalie Hirs (2001)

Rozalie Hirs (born April 7, 1965 in Gouda ) is a Dutch composer and poet .

Career and work

Hirs studied composition with Diderik Wagenaar (1991–1994) and Louis Andriessen (1994–1998) at the Koninklijk Conservatorium Den Haag , Netherlands, then with Tristan Murail (1999–2002) at Columbia University , New York.

Their music is characterized by a preference for sound and the use of frequency spectra and mathematical functions during the creative process. Your music could therefore be classified as spectral music. It includes instrumental music, electro-acoustic music, as well as music for speaking voice with your own texts. Hirs taught composition and contemporary composition techniques at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam from 2005 to 2006 (on behalf of the Amsterdam School of the Arts) and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama , London, from 2011 to 2012.

Her poetry is experimental and lyrical at the same time. It includes both volumes of poetry and digital works that are created in collaboration with visual artists and designers. The renowned Dutch publisher Em. Querido's Uitgeverij has so far published six volumes of poetry: Locus (1998), Logos (2002), [Speling] ( Spielraum , 2005), Geluksbrenger ( Glücksbringer , 2008), gestamelde werken ( stammelte werke , 2012), verdere bijzonderheden ( further details , 2017).

On the recommendation of Cees Nooteboom , Hirs was a scholarship holder (literature section) of the Academy of Arts , Berlin in 2004 . In 2005 Akzente ( Carl Hanser Verlag ) published their German-language debut. The first German-language volume of poetry a day was published in 2014 by Hochroth Verlag in Berlin. Hirs regularly runs poetry workshops with children and young people for art worlds, the education program of the Akademie der Künste, Berlin.
