Rudi-Karl Pahnke

Rudi-Karl Pahnke (born June 30, 1943 in Berlin ) is a German Protestant theologian .

Life

After training to become a precision mechanic, theological training followed, followed by a study of theology in East Berlin. Active in church child and youth work, Pahnke was a pastor in Berlin-Prenzlauer Berg from 1972 to 1982 with various contacts in the GDR opposition movement , attempts to dialogue with critical Marxists and active support for peace, environmental and human rights groups under the umbrella of the Evangelicals Church . In 1982 Pahnke took part in the “ Berlin Appeal ”, was at times spokesman for the Berlin Peace Workshop in the Church of the Redeemer in Rummelsburg and worked on documents for the “ Ecumenical Assembly of Churches and Christians in the GDR on Peace, Justice and the Preservation of Creation ”. In October 1989 he founded, together with Rainer Eppelmann , among others , the Democratic Awakening (DA) and was at times a member of the party executive. In December, following the election of Wolfgang Schnur as party chairman and the conservative turnaround in the DA, Pahnke left the party. In 1990 he temporarily headed the round table of young people and in the same year was a member of the church initiative “Law and Reconciliation”.

As head of studies at the Evangelical Academy Berlin-Brandenburg from 1992 on, he was responsible for youth issues and the German-Israeli youth exchange. In 2001 Pahnke became chairman of the association “Miphgasch / Treffen eV”, which aims to build bridges between Jewish and non-Jewish youth. Today Pahnke is head of the "Institute New Impulse" for German-Israeli youth encounters. The association - an independent registered association since 2005 - organizes encounters between young people and contemporary witnesses of the Shoah and qualification courses for German- Israeli youth encounters .
