Rudolf Kleen

Rudolf Kleen (born May 31, 1954 in Varel ) is a former German national basketball player . The winger became German champions four times with Leverkusen.

career

Kleen's club basketball career began at the age of 15. In November 1970 he made his debut in the basketball league in the shirt of TuS 04 Leverkusen . In 1971 he took part with the German selection at the European Cadet Championship in Italy and was the second best thrower of his team with an average of 10.1 points per encounter.

In 1971, 1972, 1976 and 1979 he became German champions with Leverkusen, and in 1971, 1974 and 1976 he also won the DBB Cup  . Until 1981 Kleen played 246 Bundesliga games for the Rhinelander and, after leaving Leverkusen, also played for the BC Giants Osnabrück in the top division of Germany. In total, he scored 4,137 Bundesliga points during his career.

In the shirt of the German national senior team, he made 28 international appearances between 1973 and 1975. He contested other competitions at international level with Leverkusen in the European Cup.

Kleen was also active as a coach and led the A-Jugend from TuS 04 Leverkusen (with players like Gunther Behnke , Bernd Kater and Uwe Brauer ) to win the German championship in June 1981.

In the 1970s, in addition to his games as a basketball player, Kleen was also active in the handball league for a time, where he represented the colors of TuS Derschlag .

Kleen's daughter Julia played basketball in the second Bundesliga and was a junior national player.
