Rudi Wegner

Rudi Wegner (born May 27, 1923 in Richtenberg ; † July 20, 1995 ) was a youth functionary of the FDJ and Rear Admiral of the People's Navy .

Life

The son of a worker completed an apprenticeship as a blacksmith from 1937 to 1941 and was then drafted into the Navy . Here he had to do military service until 1945, first as a mate, and finally as a non-commissioned officer of the tank grenadiers. He was taken prisoner by the British until 1946.

After the war he went back to his homeland and worked as a blacksmith's journeyman until 1947. He became a member of the FDJ in 1946 and a member of the SED in 1947 . First he was the local secretary of the FDJ in Richtenberg, from 1948 a functionary of the FDJ district leadership Stralsund, then the SED state leadership Mecklenburg.

In 1950 he joined the German People's Police and became a political officer in the Maritime Police headquarters. From 1951 to 1952 he was chairman of the party control commission of the clearing and coastal security division and from 1952 to 1954 deputy for political work at the head of the rear services of the VP-Sea. In 1954 he was employed in the same position with the chief armament and ship repair of the VP-See and from 1954 to 1955 with the chief of the staff of the VP-See. From 1955 to 1956 he was deputy head of the political department of the command of the VP-See.

After the establishment of the NVA and the naval forces, he was deputy chief of the naval forces and head of the political department from April 1956 to December 1958. From 1959 to 1961 he attended the Naval War Academy of the USSR and was then from February 1 to November 30, 1974 Deputy Chief of the People's Navy and Head of the Political Administration of the People's Navy Command. In October 1968 he was appointed Rear Admiral. From 1974 to 1983 he was the commander of the "Walter Steffens" fleet school . On May 31, 1983, he was released from military service.
