Rudie Hermann Kuiter (* 1943 in Amersfoort ) is an Australian underwater photographer .

life and career

Kuiter was born in Amersfoort in the Netherlands in 1943 and emigrated to Australia in 1964 , where he started diving and underwater photography. At first he worked as an electronics technician and dived in his spare time. From 1980 his hobby turned into a profession. He became an employee of the Australian Museum in Sydney and began, initially together with ichthyologists , to publish scientific articles about fish, especially about seahorses . He described several new species of seahorses. His underwater photos are printed in books and magazines around the world. Five fish species and one genus were named in honor Kuiters, the Damsel Chrysiptera kuiteri , the dried cod Heteroclinus kuiteri which gobiesocidae Kopua kuiteri , the wrasse Macropharyngodon kuiteri which Leierfisch Synchiropus kuiteri and the anglerfish genus Kuiterichthys .

In addition to his ichthyological work, Kuiter deals with orchids and ornithology .
