Rudolf Bülck

Rudolf Bülck (born August 19, 1880 in Neumünster ; † May 1, 1954 ) was a German librarian .

Life

Bülck was the child of the farrier Hartwig Friedrich Bülck and his wife Elsabe, nee. Rohwedder. After attending grammar school in Plön , he studied German and Romance philology, Danish and history in Freiburg, Kiel and Berlin. In 1926 he passed the state examination and received his doctorate. His dissertation was entitled: "The Schleswig-Holstein newspaper system from its beginnings to the year 1789". Bülck initially embarked on the career of middle library service in the Göttingen University Library from 1908 , before moving to the Kiel University Library in 1914 . From 1915 to 1918 he took part in the First World War as a soldier. In 1927 Bülck was admitted to the scientific service and passed his specialist examination in 1928. In 1934 he became a library councilor. In 1944 he was seriously injured in a bomb attack on the University Library. In 1945 he was the only scientific officer at Kiel University Library who was still on duty. He organized the repatriation of the outsourced stocks.

Bülck researched the Low German language, Schleswig-Holstein literature, especially Klaus Groth and Friedrich Hebbel, Schleswig-Holstein regional studies and the history of the Christian-Albrechts-Universität Kiel and the history of the Kiel University Library.
