Life

The son of the well-known stage actor Rudolf Deyl senior (1876–1972) made his first contact with the theater through his father as a teenager and made his debut in front of the camera during the silent film era. A year later, in 1929, he started as a theater actor on a traveling stage. After more than a decade of activities on provincial Czech theaters such as Brno and Mährisch-Ostrau , Deyl returned in 1940 to his native city of Prague, which had been occupied by the German National Socialists.

Here he continued his theater work and occasionally appeared in movies. After the liberation of Czechoslovakia in 1945, Rudolf Deyl junior became one of the country's most sought-after film actors. Mostly he was seen in supporting roles, occasionally also in leading roles, in both dramatic and comedic stories. Most of the Deyl films were shown in GDR cinemas, but the artist on the other side of the Iron Curtain remained an almost completely blank slate - only his comedic villain role of Doug Badman in the western parody " Lemonade Joe " was remembered .
