The Armstrong Redwoods State Natural Reserve is a California state park in Sonoma County . The approximately 326 hectare park north of the town of Guerneville is best known for its old population of coastal redwoods ( Sequoia sempervirens ).

The park was named after the wood baron (English lumber baron ) James Boydston Armstrong (1824-1900), who wrote the land to his daughter Kate in 1878 for "a dollar, love and affection". Armstrong had come to Guerneville during the timber boom and had seen large areas of old trees being cut down (with reference to the stumps that remained after the deforestation, Guerneville was initially called “Stumptown”). His plan to set up a nature reserve was not implemented until after Armstrong's death. In 1917 Sonoma County bought the land for $ 80,000 and operated the park until 1934 when ownership was transferred to the State of California . In 1964 the park with its old trees was officially placed under protection as a "State Natural Reserve".

Today the park is open to visitors all year round. Special attractions are the "Colonel Armstrong Tree" as the oldest tree of the stock, the "Parson Jones Tree" as the largest tree, and the "Icicle Tree", which was originally known for its long hanging burls , but has since been severely damaged by vandalism.
