The Emerald Bay State Park is located in the Sierra Nevada in the northeast of the US state California . The center of the park is the Emerald Bay (in German "Emerald Bay"), which is connected to Lake Tahoe in the northeast . history

In 1969 Emerald Bay was declared a National Natural Landmark by the Ministry of the Interior . In 1994, the California Department of Parks and Recreation added the actual bay, making the park one of the first examples of underwater conservation areas in California. There are several wrecks at the bottom of Emerald Bay.

Fannette Island

The only island in Lake Tahoe is in the middle of Emerald Bay and is one of the most photographed subjects in the area. Over the past few decades she has had various names, including Coquette, Fanette, Baranoff, Dead Man's, Hermit's and Emerald Isle.

Fannette Island was the last home of Captain Dick Barter. The eccentric ship's captain came from England and built his own grave and chapel on the small island. His favorite occupations were sailing and the habit of showing guests his specially amputated toes. Barter lived on Fannette Island from 1863 to 1873. However, he was not buried in his grave because he was killed in a storm and his body was never found.
