Rudolf Freitag (born March 22, 1933 - † January 25, 2017 ) was a German soccer player in Zeitz . In 1959 he played for Chemie Zeitz in the GDR Oberliga , the top division in GDR football .

Athletic career

When a transition round was held in all divisions in the fall of 1955 to switch GDR football to the calendar season, the 22-year-old Rudolf Freitag came to the second-rate GDR league for the first time for the company sports association (BSG) Chemie Zeitzfor use. In the thirteen transitional games played, he was used ten times. In the following three regular GDR league seasons from 1956 to 1958, Freitag was a regular for Zeitzer. Of the 78 league games played, he played 71 games and scored six goals. When BSG Chemie rose to the GDR league in 1958, Friday was involved in all 26 league games mainly as a striker, but without scoring a goal. In the league season of 1959 he began as a striker, but was then mainly used in midfield. During the summer break, Friday was so badly injured that his football career was basically over. There was another attempt as a substitute on the 20th matchday, after 14 league appearances without a goal he had to take a long break. In the following seasons he no longer appeared in the squad of the first team of BSG Chemie. In the 1961/62 season, which was played with 39 games due to the return to the summer-spring game rhythm in the GDR league, in which Zeitz played again after relegation from the league, Friday played fifteen point games. After a season without use, he completed his last two point games in higher-class football in 1963/64. So he had come to 112 league games within ten years and scored seven goals. In 2013 he was named an honorary member of 1. FC Zeitz, the successor to BSG Chemie, with his team-mates from the Oberliga.
