Rudolf Gähler, 1984, plays the violin with a round arch

Rudolf Gähler (born February 11, 1941 in Hoyerswerda ) is a German violinist and bow player .

Life

Rudolf Gähler studied violin with Rolph Schroeder in Kassel and Vittorio Brero in Berlin. He was the first concertmaster of the Beethoven Orchestra Bonn for many years .

Rudolf Gähler is considered to be one of the few violinists who have mastered the modern round arch technique. After a concert by Rudolf Gählers at the 48th Bach Festival of the New Bach Society in 1973 in Nuremberg, the editor of the New Bach Edition, Günter Haußwald, found "the polyphonic power" astonishing, which Bach gained through an interpretation with the modern round arch. Rudolf Gähler was in direct performers compared with the comparison of the arched sound and that of the straight arch to hear along with Dmitry Sitkovetsky on the 57th Bach Festival 1982 in Würzburg, with Mark Kaplan on the television program of the ARD for the 300th birthday of Johann Sebastian Bach in 1985 or with Thomas Zehetmair at the symposium "Be Solo" of the European String Teachers Association (President: Sir Yehudi Menuhin ) and the international Bach Academy , Stuttgart 1990 (Director: Helmuth Rilling ). Radio and television broadcasts as well as records and CD recordings demonstrate the breadth of his repertoire and the rich sound possibilities both when using the normal, conventional arch and the round arch.

In addition to his solo activities, Rudolf Gähler holds master classes at home and abroad and appears as a specialist at specialist conferences, symposia and festivals.
