Rudolf Gerke

Christian Friedrich Rudolf Gerke (born November 2, 1848 in Dassel , † July 14, 1912 in Dresden ) was a German geodesist .

Life

Rudolf Gerke came from Hanover. After graduating from high school in Holzminden , he was called up as a soldier in the Franco-German War in 1870. After returning home, he studied engineering at the Polytechnic School in Hanover in 1874 with the well-known architect Conrad Wilhelm Hase . In 1877 he got his first job at the Polytechnic School of Hanover, where he worked as an assistant for geodesy and descriptive geometry and completed his habilitation in 1880. From then on he worked as a private lecturer at the Polytechnic School in Hanover until 1886. He then moved to Altenburg , where he took over the management of the land surveying office of the Duchy of Saxony-Altenburg.

In 1886 Rudolf Gerke became a corresponding member of the Natural Research Society of the Osterlande zu Altenburg.

In 1892 he moved to Dresden , where he was offered the post of director in the city survey office. In October 1911 he had to resign from this office for health reasons. After several months of illness, he died on July 14, 1912 as surveying director in Dresden and was buried in the cemetery in Tolkewitz .
