Rudolf Hanel (born October 31, 1897 ; † unknown) was an Austrian football player who was one of the most successful goal scorers in the Austrian championship in the 1920s and was used in the national team .

Club career

Born in Fünfhauser, he began playing football at the lower-class local club SC Rekord XV , where he worked until 1920, apart from the period of the First World War . After a year at Fünfhauser SK and a brief return to his parent club, he switched to SK Slovan Vienna, which was then in the second division, in 1921 . The Meidlinger Czech club fought for promotion to the top division, but finally had to admit defeat to the same points Vienna AC . In the following season, the green-whites made the desired promotion with striker Hanel all the more impressive.

In the first year of the first class, the league could just be achieved, while Hanel had a significant share with 15 goals this season, which also meant second place in the list of goalscorers behind Gustav Wieser . In the same year Slovan also reached the final in the ÖFB Cup , where they had to admit defeat to the amateurs 6-8 in extra time after a dramatic game . The right connector stayed with Slovan for two more years and was able to place himself among the top three scorers in the league again in 1925/26 . He scored the first goal in the newly opened České Srdce stadium against Hertha in August 1925 .

After these achievements, Hanel was hired by SK Rapid Vienna , but where it was unable to convince and was handed over to Vienna during the spring season. Then he returned to Slovan, where he immediately found his old strength, led the relegation candidate to a midfield and was again third on the goalscorer list. In the middle of the 1928/29 season he left the favorites again and joined the first division promoted SC Nicholson , in this season he was even again the second most successful striker in the league behind Anton Schall .

From 1929 Hanel ran for the Wiener Sport-Club , for which he played two and a half seasons and then returned to Nicholson. Further stations at Brigittenauer AC , where he again reached the cup final, and at the sports club followed before he was re-amateurized and ended his career at Post SV Wien . Later he was also active as a referee.

National team

Despite his regular goalscoring successes in the championship, Hanel was only rarely considered in selection teams. He made his national team debut in May 1926 in a 3-0 win against Hungary in Budapest, where he also scored a goal. A few weeks later he was back among the scorers in the 4-1 win against France , but this was also his last appearance for the national team. In addition, he also played twice in the B team and the Vienna city selection.
