Rudolf Kremayr

Rudolf Kremayr (born December 25, 1905 in Ottsdorf , Upper Austria ; † December 17, 1989 in Perchtoldsdorf , Lower Austria ) was an Austrian publisher.

Kremayr was one of twelve siblings in a farming family who also owned a sawmill and a mill. Since he was not a court heir, he went to Germany and got by as a magazine representative. In 1938 he founded his own magazine distribution company in Vienna, from which, after an interruption due to the war, initially the publishing house Kremayr & Scheriau (founded 1951) and ultimately the book club Donauland (founded 1950) developed, in which Kremayr's HR manager Wilhelm Scheriau was involved.

The tough entrepreneur and temporarily National Socialist retired to a large extent from business life in 1966 after a heart attack, sold his company to Bertelsmann and worked primarily as an art collector and patron.

In Rust in Burgenland, he owned the building, which was built in 1675 and is a listed building in the city center, which he left with the city in 1986 along with his art collection. The Rust City Museum is currently housed in the Kremayr House. He himself received honorary citizenship in 1987.
