Rudolf Marić

Rudolf Marić (born May 13, 1927 in Novi Sad , † August 26, 1990 in Belgrade ) was a chess master and chess author from Yugoslavia .

After Rudolf Marić graduated from high school, he devoted himself entirely to chess. In 1953 he became national champion, in 1964 international champion of FIDE . He was twice champion of Serbia , ten times he took part in Yugoslav championships. In 1962 he won in Nikšić , in 1967 in Monte Carlo (Masters B). In the strong tournament of Vinkovci in 1970 he received the beauty award for his victory over Petrosian . Until 1988 he worked as the national coach of Yugoslavia. Rudolf Marić died in 1990 after a heart attack. Shortly after his death in 1990 he was made an honorary grandmaster posthumously .

Marić's last Elo rating was 2345, its highest rating of 2465 he reached in January 1975. Before the introduction of Elo ratings, Marić reached its highest historical rating of 2584 in February 1971 .
