Rudolf Petersson

Rudolf Petersson (born June 17, 1896 in Halmstad , † April 17, 1970 in Enhörna ) was a Swedish caricaturist and comic artist .

Life

Petersson published his first cartoons at the age of 17. From 1915 to 1918 he attended the Valand Art School in Gothenburg , where he mainly dealt with painting. In 1921 he emigrated to the USA . There he earned his living with illustration drawings for newspapers. In 1931 he returned to Sweden, meanwhile married. From 1936 to 1939 he worked for the Disney studios , in particular on the films Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and Pinocchio .

In memory of his time in the military in Halland , Petersson developed the figure of Recruit 91: an. This comic character soon became the most famous recruit in all of Sweden. Until his wife's death in 1959, Petersson drew the 91: an comics; then the series was continued by other draftsmen. In 1966 Petersson was the first artist to receive the Adamsson statuette from the Svenska Seireakademin.

Petersson started drinking as a widower and lived a very secluded life in his last years. He died just a few days after his childhood friend and brother-in-law Gustaf Tenggren .
