Rudolf Eugen Stahlecker (born November 25, 1898 in Sternenfels near Pforzheim , † October 26, 1977 in Urach ) was a German teacher, geologist and vertebrate paleontologist .

Life

He studied with the German-Baltic paleontologist Friedrich von Huene at the University of Tübingen . In 1928 and 1929 he took part in expeditions in the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul to collect fossils there. He also collected fossils in Argentina.

In his honor, Stahleckeria potens was named. The fossil remains of this dicynodontier were excavated near São Pedro do Sul in the paleontological site of Chiniquá.

After receiving his doctorate, Stahlecker did not become a scientist, but a biology teacher at a high school in Stuttgart. “The Führer wants to teach the people to think biologically again, we scientists have to be his first collaborators here,” he spread as his motto. After denazification he had to pause as a teacher for a few years, although as a biology teacher he was not as intensely involved in National Socialism as his younger brother, the SS brigad leader and commander of "Einsatzgruppe A" Walter Stahlecker .
