Rudolf Chavanne , until 1919 Edler von Chavanne (born June 23, 1850 in Hungarian Weißkirchen / Fehértemplom , Temesvár County (today Bela Crkva); † October 30, 1936 in Graz ) was K. u. K. General of the Infantry and finally Corps Commander of the XIII. Army corps and commanding general in Agram / Zagreb .

T. dkk Colonel and Kt. D. Illyrian-Banater-Grenz-Inf.-Rgts. No. 18 Stephan Rakittievich von Toplitza and d. Karolina from Gregus. In his second marriage in Graz, on July 5, 1862, his father took Juliana Edle von Krisch (born January 20, 1831 in Teschen, † March 23, 1903 in Dresden), T. dkk Upper Border Commissioner i. R. Johann Rr. Von Krisch and d. Amalie von Rizzoli as wife.

The older brother of his father was Franz Norbert ( noble status by Emperor Franz Joseph I on November 14, 1848) Edler von Chavanne (born August 14, 1802 in Venice, † September 7, 1872 in Linz), a kk Feldmarschalleutnant a. Life

After his father's retirement and the early death of his mother, Chavanne came to the cadet institute in Marburg ad Drau as a pupil at the age of twelve in 1861, which was followed by his admission to the artillery academy in Mährisch-Weißkirchen in autumn 1865. On August 18, 1869 he was assigned to the Lower Austrian Fortress Artillery Battalion No. 4 as a sub-lieutenant, which was followed at the end of July 1870 by his transfer to the Galician Field Artillery Regiment No. 9, which was stationed first in Vienna and from 1871 in Lemberg. After three years of service in the troops, he was accepted into the war school in autumn 1872, the excellent completion of which was the basis for his admission to the general staff. As a first lieutenant of the General Staff, he was assigned to the Moravian Infantry Regiment “Frhr. v. Grueber ”No. 54. In 1876 he was assigned to the command of the 6th Infantry Troop Division in Graz, who, after being promoted to captain in the General Staff on November 1, 1877, participated in the Bosnian campaign of 1878 and then transferred to the Corps command in Graz followed. After participating in the exercises of the 28th Infantry Troop Division in the area around Ljubljana / Ljubljana, he was appointed to service at court by Field Marshal Lieutenant Freiherr von Schönfeld in August 1880, where he initially served as an adjutant to the emperor's adjutant general, Feldzeugmeister Freiherr von Mondel, was assigned. After taking part in the maneuvers in Güns, he was appointed commander of the Hungarian Infantry Regiment "Archduke Ludwig Viktor" No. 65 in Ungvár. In the autumn of 1895 he took part in the autumn maneuvers in Sweden as an official observer. With his promotion to major general on May 1, 1897 (May 11), he became commander of the 37th Infantry Brigade in Pilsen / Plzeň in Bohemia, whereupon he was transferred to Ljubljana in 1901, where he was on May 1, 1901 (April 28, 1901) .) had been appointed field marshal lieutenant and commander of the 28th Infantry Troop Division. In July 1906 he was entrusted with the corps command in Agram / Zagreb, and in January 1907 he became commander of the XIII. Army corps and commanding general in Agram. On May 1, 1907 (April 25th) he was promoted to Feldzeugmeister, but was instigated against him in Agram by the Commander of the VII Landwehr District Field Marshal Lieutenant Raimund Gerba (1849-1918) in November 1907, as the official wording said , "At my own request" for "health reasons" on a waiting fee. On November 15, 1908 for K. u. K. General of the Infantry, he did not officially retire until May 1, 1914. His request for reactivation, which was immediately submitted at the beginning of World War I, was no longer granted due to his rank and age. Subsequently, however, the Imperial and Royal Ministry of War entrusted the management of the patriotic young rifle club, for which Emperor Karl I awarded him the war decoration with swords for the Grand Cross of the Franz Joseph Order in 1916 . He died in Graz on October 30, 1936 and was buried in the St. Leonhard Cemetery.
