Rudolfinian celebrations

The Rudolfinische Handfeste , usually briefly called Rudolfinum , was a handfeast , i.e. a document with which Duke Rudolf I on June 19, 1294, confirmed to the city of Munich all the rights that his predecessors had granted it.

The document contains 22 articles, which convey the most important legal norms of the city, and thus represents a kind of constitution of the city of Munich. In this document, the city is also left with the lower jurisdiction . For the first time the residents of Munich are referred to as "Burgaer".

With the mention that some of these norms should also apply to an area outside the city, this document also gives the first indication of the existence of the Munich Castle Peace .

As a model town charter, the Rudolfinum was intensively passed on to other towns and markets. In 1294 the standards of the Rudolfinum were also transferred to the city of Wasserburg am Inn , and in 1314 to Ingolstadt .
