The Rue des Vinaigriers ( German  vinegar maker ) is a street in the Porte Saint-Martin district of the 10th arrondissement in Paris .

location

The rue des Vinaigriers starts at no. 100 rue du Faubourg Saint-Martin and ends after 385 meters at no. 21 rue Jean Poulmarch and no. 89 Quai de Valmy . It is 10 meters wide and crosses the Boulevard de Magenta , the Passage Dubail , the Rue Lucien Sampaix and the Rue Jean Poulmarch in its course from west to east . The street is mentioned for the first time in 1728 on the plan of Abbot Jean Delagrive under its current name.

Name origin

The street is named after a small place ( French: Lieu-dit ) called Essigmacherfeld , where it served as a border.

history

The street is listed on the Plan de Gomboust ( Jacques Gomboust , 1616–1663) from 1652 under the name “Rue Carême-Prenant” and on the Plan de Delagrive from 1728 as “Ruelle des Vinaigres”. After Jaillot , the traffic route is called “Ruelle de l'Héritier” because the owner would have inherited the property.

In 1780 the street was given its current name, although it was only a path or an alley.

In 1813 it was still a narrow and winding street. At that time, the construction of buildings began there according to the ministerial guidelines, which were issued after a royal decree of March 31, 1847.

When a German plane flew over Paris for the first time on August 30, 1914 during World War I , a 2 kilo bomb fell on Rue des Vinaigriers; however, there were no victims.

In 1946, the section of street between house numbers 73-87 on the Quai de Valmy was named “ Rue Jean-Poulmarch ”.

activities

There are numerous cafés, restaurants, shops and artists' studios on Rue des Vinaigriers.
