Ruedi Wyss

Rudolf J. Wyss or Ruedi Wyss (born May 24, 1932 in Günsberg , Canton Solothurn , † September 28, 2007 in Solothurn ) was a musician , composer and conductor from the Swiss canton of Solothurn.

Life

From the age of 9, Ruedi Wyss took accordion lessons. He made his first steps in brass music in the Günsberg Music Society, where he learned to play the flugelhorn . He passed the examination for military trumpeter , graduated from the Trumpeter recruit school in Aarau and settled then trained as a conductor. 1952-62 he worked part-time as an accordion teacher in the Bucheggberg district .

At the age of 14, Wyss began an apprenticeship as a machine draftsman at Truninger AG in Solothurn , where he remained employed until he retired.

Ruedi Wyss studied conducting and composition with Franz Königshofer at the then Solothurn Music Academy . As a practical conductor, he later headed various music societies. He was particularly committed as a trainer, he wrote various methods and courses for the training of wind players and conductors, for example the Rudo School , an elementary school for brass.

He often worked as an expert at cantonal and federal music festivals and was one of the initiators of the Solothurn Brass Music Prize.

Awards

  • 1985 Recognition award from the government council of the Canton of Solothurn for his great services in promoting further education in the Solothurn brass music industry

Ruedi Wyss has composed over a hundred marches, polkas, dixies and tangos, which are published by Rudo-Verlag and played on various CDs. The best known include:
