Ruedi Zahner (born February 7, 1957 ) is a former Swiss football player (positions: defense and midfield ), football coach and team manager. He was appointed as coach of FC Aarau in October 2006 after the former coach Urs Schönenberger announced his resignation at the end of October after a series of defeats. In January 2007, first Ryszard Komornicki , then Gilbert Gress in May 2007, was appointed as the new coach, and Zahner still had an advisory role as team manager until the end of the 2006/07 season.

Short biography

He is the owner of a fitness center in Aarau and has looked after the U17 junior national team in Switzerland in the areas of personality and team development since 1999.

Zahner is a passionate clown in his hobby and also uses this knowledge in his activities as a coach.

Greatest successes

In 1982 he was promoted as a player with FC Aarau in the National League A, won the Swiss Cup in 1985 , also with Aarau and finally became Swiss champions as an assistant coach with the same club in 1993 under the then coach Rolf Fringer . He has been the team manager for FC Aarau since June 1, 2006, and head coach from October 31 to the end of 2006.

FC Aarau in the 2006/07 season

In the 2006/07 season, FC Aarau was in tenth and last place in the Axpo Super League during the winter break . For a long time it seemed questionable whether the club would manage the turnaround to a place "above the grain" with the new coach, who has been the fourth coach since 2004. Critical voices also accumulated about the decision of the management of the club to engage the coach as a trainer.

A new development began to emerge at the end of 2006: Ruedi Zahner did not receive permission from the SFV to attend the UEFA Pro license course in order to be a coach on his own. The UEFA Pro license is a condition to hold a coaching position in the Axpo Super League. Therefore, the management of FC Aarau was looking for a new trainer who, according to Zahner's statements, should run the club with him "in partnership". This trainer had to have a license. As of January 3, 2007, Ryszard Komornicki, long-time international and former FC Aarau player, was nominated. Officially, Komornicki was the club's new coach until May 14, 2007. Ruedi Zahner had advised him on his work as a team manager. Gilbert Gress has been the new trainer since May 14th.

Gress had managed to keep FC Aarau in the top class for the new season with the last three league and two Barrage games. Zahner himself will no longer act as head of sport in the new 2007/08 season. On June 3, after the important home win against AC Bellinzona, he indicated that he would leave.

Sports coaching

Zahner was also a sports coach and has developed his own system called "repowering" to regain lost energies through yoga . With the method he got the chance from the SFV in 1991 to support the then U16 junior national team. Ruedi Zahner now offers his services to the public.
