Schadburg ruins

The Schadburg castle ruins are the ruins of a hilltop castle above the village of Ringgenberg on the route to Niederried in the Swiss municipality of Ringgenberg in the canton of Bern .

history

The castle seems to have been built in several steps in the 12th century. However, there is no documentary mention of the Schadburg until 1240. Based on the location of the castle, it seems to have served to secure and control the route between Brienz and Interlaken .

According to legend, the baron Kuno von Ringgenberg started building a dungeon in the 13th century. Before he could finish construction, however, he was murdered.
