Emil Müller (wrestler)
Emil Müller (born February 27, 1949 in Mainz ) is a former German wrestler . He was a multiple German champion in both styles and medalist at European bantamweight championships.
Career
Emil Müller grew up in Mainz and began wrestling at ASV Mainz in 1888 at the age of six . As was customary in the junior sector at that time, he worked in both styles, the Greco-Roman and the free style. At the age of 14 he was first German youth champion in the Greco-Roman style in 1963 in the weight class up to 40 kg body weight (KG). At that time there was only the age group of young people from the age of 14 to 18 and the age group of juniors from 19 to 21 years of age in the junior division. International championships in the youth field were introduced in the late 1960s. Emil Müller did not take part in any of these championships.
In 1965 Emil Müller won again the German youth championship in Greco-Roman. Style in the weight class up to 52 kg body weight, which in 1967, again in Greco-Roman. Style in the weight class up to 52 kg, the third youth champion title followed. In the junior sector he continued his successes seamlessly, because in this age group he won in 1966 in flyweight, free style, and in 1968 in bantamweight in both styles. In 1969 he won the junior title in Greco-Roman. Stil and in 1970, his final junior year, he was once again double champion in bantamweight.
In 1967 Emil Müller started at the German senior championships for the first time and was runner-up in free style in the flyweight division behind Rolf Lacour from Köllerbach . He then became German champion in 1968 in the Greco-Roman style in flyweight, in 1969 in the Greco-Roman style in the bantamweight and in 1971, 1974 and 1975 in the free style in the bantamweight. In addition, he was German runner-up several times. With ASV Mainz 1888 he was finally German team champion in 1973 and 1977.
In 1971 Emil Müller was used for the first time in an international championship. He started it in Sofia in bantamweight. In his first fight he won a victory over the Swiss B. Müller, lost in his second fight against the Olympic and world champion Hideaki Yanagida from Japan and in his third fight he was taken off the mat together with the South Korean Choi Seung-gil because of passivity . He finished 14th in the final bill.
In 1972 Emil Müller failed to qualify for the Olympic Games in Munich . He did not come back to his next international championship until 1974. He presented himself in excellent form at the European Championships in Madrid in the free style in bantamweight. He won there over Amrik Singh Gill from Great Britain , Georgios Hatzioannidis, Greece , Pavle Jovanov from Yugoslavia and Gheorghe Dobranel from Romania and fought against Roin Dobordschenidze from the USSR . He lost against Hans-Dieter Brüchert from the GDR and Pano Schelew from Bulgaria. He came in 3rd place and won an EM bronze medal .
Things did n't go so well for him at the 1974 World Cup in Istanbul , because he was defeated there by Gheorghe Dobranel and Pano Zelew and only came in 14th.
In 1970 and 1971 Emil Müller fought six international matches for the FRG. He had two wins and one draw. Against the world class wrestler Iwan Schamow from Bulgaria, Ion Baciu and Ion Păun from Romania he lost each.
Even after the end of his active career, Emil Müller remained loyal to wrestling and ASV Mainz in 1988. He held many offices in his club over the years and was also a coach for many years. Currently (2010) he is the second chairman of ASV Mainz 1888.
