László Klinga

László Klinga (born July 9, 1947 in Mosonszentpéter (today to Jánossomorja , Győr-Moson-Sopron ), Hungary ) is a former Hungarian wrestler . He won a bronze medal in featherweight free style at the 1972 Munich Olympics and was Vice European Champion in 1973 and 1976 .

Career

László Klinga started wrestling as a teenager in his hometown Mosonszentpéter. At the age of 18 he joined the Hungarian People's Army and was delegated to the Honved Budapest Sports Club . Towards the end of his wrestling career, he moved to the Ferencvarosi Torna Club (FTC) Budapest . With very few exceptions, László Klinga only wrestled in free style. As an adult, he always weighed around 60 kg at a height of 1.65 meters and always started at bantam weight (at that time up to 57 kg body weight).

After László Klinga had become Hungarian bantamweight champion for the first time in 1968, he was used in free style at the European Championships in Sofia in 1969 . With one win and two defeats he came in 8th place. At the European Championships 1970 in Berlin (East), he was a bit more successful, reaching with three wins on the 5th Place and in the World Cup this year in Edmonton , he came after two victories and defeats Zbigniew Żedzicki from Poland and Othon Moschidis from Greece to 6th place. He had reached the extended world elite.

At the World Cup in Sofia in 1971 , however, he showed weaknesses. He only managed one victory there. After defeats against Horst Mayer from the GDR a . Viktor Shatkov from the USSR came only 12th.

1972 was a very successful year for László Klinga. His 5th place at the 1974 World Cup in Istanbul was also remarkable . There he lost after three wins against Hans-Dieter Brüchert and Wladimir Jumin .
