Ruka Hirano ( Japanese 平野 流 佳 Hirano Ruka ; born March 12, 2002 ) is a Japanese snowboarder . He starts in the halfpipe discipline .

Career

Hirano had his first international success at the 2018 Junior Snowboarding World Championships in Cardrona . There he won the silver medal. At the beginning of the 2018/19 season he started the World Cup in Copper Mountain for the first time and finished in 15th place. In the further course of the season he achieved second place in the Secret Garden Ski Resort and in Calgary and thus reached fourth place in the Freestyle World Cup and second place in the Halfpipe World Cup. In January 2019 he won the gold medal at the Junior World Championships in Leysin . At the season highlight, the 2019 Snowboard World Championships in Park City , he came in 13th place. In the 2019/20 season he came third at the World Cup in Copper Mountain, Secret Garden Skiresort and Mammoth . He also won his first World Cup victory in Calgary and at the end of the season he finished fourth in the Freestyle World Cup and third in the Halfpipe World Cup. He won the halfpipe gold medal at the 2020 Winter Youth Olympic Games in Lausanne .
