Run Run Vanguard was a rock band that was founded in Berlin in 1988 . The band released an album and subsequently broke up without a tour.

history

Run Run Vanguard was one of Alexander Veljanov's side projects in the 1990s , who became popular with Ernst Horn through Deine Lakaien , which ensured media coverage for Run Run Vanguard when the debut was released. Peter Bohge and Veljanov were already musically active together before 1988. Timo Arndt joined them in December 1992. Since then the band has consisted of Timo Arndt (bass), Doc P. Bohge (guitar), Werner Engel (drums) and Alexander Veljanov (voice).

Run Run Vanguard saw themselves more as a live band and released their first and only album Suck Success in 1993 after having performed live for years. It was made in part with the help of producer Dave Young.

In 1993 Run Run Vanguard headlined a festival against violence at KOMM in Nuremberg.

style

The classic rock band line-up of guitar, bass, drums and vocals resulted in a hard, earthy guitar sound that was clearly different from your lackeys. Veljanov described the band's music as "very powerful, rough and angry" ( Alexander Veljanov ). The band, described as a Gothic-Rock band, picked up many other styles of guitar music, for example grunge , glam rock and new wave , which also earned the band the categorization of "Gothic-Grunge". Run Run Vanguard distanced themselves from these attempts at classification.

Veljanov later described "Suck Success" as "a very trashy record" ( Alexander Veljanov ), which was due to the lack of funds for the production. The garage character was deliberately wanted and was created by the "musicians rubbing together" during improvisations.

Ballad-like songs like “Time” or the Macedonian “Taga Sa Jug”, which has been described several times as the highlight of the album, alternated with aggressive pieces like “Keyvent”. A violin was used for pieces like “Debauchees” and “Harbor of Silence”. The whole thing was framed by Veljanov's dark voice. The texts he wrote deal with topics such as AIDS and incest as well as love and redemption.
