The building complex, popularly known as a rotunda , is a residential complex in Kaiserslautern . It joins the “ Bunter Block ” to the west. Characteristic is the part north of Königstrasse, consisting of a transom and a semicircular (more precisely: arched) building. The complex was built from 1926 to 1928 according to plans by Hermann Hussong to combat the general housing shortage by the municipal housing association (today: “Gemeinnützige Bau AG”).
The strictly cubic, not further decorated, four-story plastered buildings are covered with flat or monopitch roofs; the facade is given rhythm by bay windows and risalits. The buildings enclose a green inner courtyard with a pond and artificial stone sculpture by the sculptor Fritz Korter , which are accessed through gate entrances; the apartments in the actual rotunda are only accessible from the inner courtyard.
The original colors - with bright yellow painted facades - and interior fittings have not been preserved, but otherwise the buildings have been preserved intact. As an example of the New Objectivity , the complex forms a monument zone .
