Torseth, who started for Kjelsås IL , ran his first World Cup race in Oslo in March 1996 , which he finished in 62nd place over 50 km classic and in 16th place with the relay. In the following year he got his first World Cup points with the 29th place over 50 km freestyle. In the 1997/98 season he came in Falun with the 29th place over 10 km freestyle again in the points and achieved with the second place together with Tor Arne Hetland in the team sprint, his only podium in the World Cup. In the 1999/2000 season he achieved his best individual results in the World Cup singles with tenth place in the sprint in Stockholm and sixth in the sprint in Oslo and his best overall results with 57th place in the overall world cup and 20th place in the sprint world cup. In 2001 he was at the Norwegian Championships together with Krister Sørgård and Remi Andersen second with the relay of Kjelsås IL. He completed his 24th and last individual World Cup race in January 2004 at Marcialonga , which he finished in 40th place. From 2001 to 2005 he also took part in the Marathon Cup . He came in the 2002/03 season three times under the top ten and finished ninth and in the following season 11th place in the overall standings.
