Runge is an impact crater on the eastern edge of the front of the moon to the east of the Mare Smythii plain , northwest of Warner crater and southeast of Haldane . The crater is very flat, since the interior of the lava the Mare was flooded.

In 1973 the International Astronomical Union (IAU) named the crater after the German mathematician Carl Runge .
