Rutshuru (German previously Rutschuro ) is a city in the province of North Kivu in the Democratic Republic of the Congo . The city is located in the western part of the Great Rift Valley , roughly halfway between Lake Edward and Lake Kiwu . The border with Uganda is 15 km to the east, the one with Rwanda 30 km to the southeast. Rutshuru belonged to Rwanda until 1910.
