Ruth Hollós-Consemüller

Ruth Consemüller , born as Ruth Hollós (born August 3, 1904 in Leszno , then Lissa / Posen, † April 25, 1993 in Cologne ) was a Hungarian and German weaver and textile artist .

Hollós was born as the daughter of Eugen and Erna Hóllos (née Königsberger). Eugen Hóllos was a brother of the Hungarian psychiatrist and psychoanalyst István Hollós .

After childhood in Lissa, Hanover and Bremen, Ruth Hóllos attended the Staatliche Kunstgewerbeschule in Bremen from 1921 to 1924 (bookbinding and writing). There she met Wilhelm Wagenfeld , at whose suggestion she began studying at the Bauhaus . From May 1924 to March 1928, Hóllos studied at the Weimar and Dessau Bauhaus. She visited u. a. Courses with Lázló Moholy-Nagy , Georg Muche , Josef Albers , Paul Klee and Wassily Kandinsky . In the weaving workshop at the Bauhaus , she learned from Helene Börner and Gunta Stölzl . In July 1927 she received the journeyman's examination certificate for hand weaving, in March the following she finished her studies. The Bauhaus diploma No. 12 (weaving) is dated June 2, 1930.

In April 1928 Ruth Hóllos took over the artistic and technical management of the East Prussian hand weaving mill in Königsberg. In January 1930 she gave up this position and moved to Halle / Saale, where she married the architect and photographer Erich Consemüller , whom she had met at the Bauhaus . On this occasion, she exchanged Hungarian for German citizenship.

The couple lived in Halle and had two children. In 1958, Hollós-Consemüller moved to Cologne.
