Rutherfurd is an impact crater in the south of the front of the moon , within the whale level of the large crater Clavius , on its southern edge. The crater is hardly eroded, has a somewhat irregular shape and has concentric structures and a central mountain on the inside .

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1935 after the American astronomer Lewis Morris Rutherfurd .
