Ryan Shultz

Ryan Shultz (* 1963 ) is an American bass trumpet of modern jazz .

Shultz worked a. a. with saxophonists Anthony Braxton , Ari Brown , Don Menza , Dave Liebman and Nick Brignola , trumpeters Randy Brecker , Johnny Coles , Paul Smoker , John McNeil and Bobby Shew , percussionists Ray Appleton , Manolo Badrena , Steve Barrios , Robby Ameen and Steve Houghton , horn player Tom Varner and multi-instrumentalist Ira Sullivan .

Between 1989 and 1995 he took part in the Chicago Jazz Festival four times , in 1995 with the Damon Short Sextet at the "What Is Jazz" festival at the Knitting Factory . In 1996 he appeared at the Summer Olympics in Atlanta, the following year he was a featured performer at the annual meeting of the International Association for Jazz Education . In 1998 he worked on Ted Sirota's album Propaganda .

Shultz leads his own quartet and several trio projects; He is also a member of several Chicago-based bands, including the Kelly Brand Quintet , the Bob Dogan Quintet , the Damon Short Quintet / Sextet , the Chicago Jazz Coalition , the Rudresh Mahanthappa Quintet , the Brackets and Ted Sirota's Rebel Souls .

Shultz composed a suite for bass trumpet, cello, bass and drums as well as several works for trio, quintet and octet with bass trumpet, bass trumpet solo and bass trumpet with percussion. He has received awards from the city of Chicago for his compositions.
