Building at Rynek 9 in Lublin

The building at Rynek 9 is located in the historic old town of Lublin in Poland , more precisely: on the market square . The first sources for this building can be found as early as 1521. Because of two stone lions, the building was also called The House under the Lions .

history

The building, named in 1521, was completely destroyed in a fire in 1575 and rebuilt by 1582. The facade of the first floor was renovated in 1699. In the first half of the 17th century the building belonged to the Dominicans . In 1803 it was acquired by Count Karl Campo del Scipio, who sold it again only a year later. In 1823 it was auctioned off. Józef Potocki became the new owner. He initiated a comprehensive renovation and modernization according to plans by Jakub Hempel . The previous entrance on the market square side was walled up. From then on, the building could only be entered through Złota St. The two lions, created in the workshop of Santi Gucci in the 16th century , have been removed. Ludwik Księżycki bought the building in 1914. During the Second World War it was partially destroyed and in 1954 it was largely restored. Remains of the portal from the Renaissance were discovered in 1995. The portal had an archivolt that rested on two stone pillars. The original portal was reconstructed from the preserved remains and the entrance was moved back to the side of the market square. On the right and left at the corners of the first cornice there are again two lions on the entrance side.
