Ryō Sakai ( Japanese 酒井 良 Sakai Ryō ; born August 9, 1977 in Kanagawa Prefecture ) is a former Japanese football player .

Career

Sakai learned to play soccer on the school team at Toko Gakuen High School and the university team at Tokyo Agricultural University . He signed his first contract with Shonan Bellmare in 2000 . The club played in the second highest league in the country, the J2 League . For the club he completed 55 games. In 2002 he moved to league rivals Montedio Yamagata . For the club he completed 32 games. He then played for Okinawa Kariyushi FC (2003-2004). In October 2004 he moved to the third division Thespa Kusatsu . At the end of the 2004 season, the club rose to the J2 League. For the club he completed 41 games. In 2006 he moved to FC Machida Zelvia . At the end of the 2011 season, the club rose to the J2 League. For the club he completed 121 games. At the end of 2012 he ended his career as a football player.
